This Sunday, March 22, is World Water Day, a day to celebrate water.
March 22 was designated as the first World Water Day by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993. Every year, World Water Day focuses on a different issue. This year’s theme is Water and Sustainable Development.
This theme focuses on how water links everything together and is critical to our future. From human health to energy security, water is a vital resource that is “at the core of sustainable development”.
In his 2015 World Water Day message, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said: “To address the many challenges related to water, we must work in a spirit of urgent cooperation, open to new ideas and innovation, and prepared to share the solutions that we all need for a sustainable future.”
