Pangaea Exploration is an environmental research firm that supports marine exploration, education and conservation. Their goal is to strengthen the health of marine life and inspire a new generation of leaders in conservation science, communication, education, art and policy leadership.

Pangaea Exploration supports, enables and sometimes leads expeditions in marine conservation research aboard the research vessel Sea Dragon. These expeditions connect researchers, conservationists and citizen scientists from around the world. All of Pangaea Exploration’s expeditions are designed to allow “regular people to join the front line team.” Anyone from any profession can join an expedition aboard the Sea Dragon.

The 72-foot Sea Dragon was originally built for the Global Challenge Race, but is now fully equipped with lab space, trawling equipment, dive gear and much more and can support up to 12 guest crew members for months at a time. The Sea Dragon has logged 113,000 kilometers across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans since she began doing environmental research in 2009.

Check out some upcoming expeditions.

For more about Pangaea Exploration, check out our interview with the Great Lakes Expedition Coordinator, Asta Mail! She tells us about the expedition and the importance of citizen science.
